Team 91 Sweeps 2024, 2025 AA Titles at NLF National Championships

St. Anthony's (N.Y.) midfielder Gary Merrill scored a hat trick Sunday to lead Team 91 LI Shock to an 11-7 win over Prime Time in the NLF National Championships 2025 AA final.

Team 91, Sweetlax and Laxachusetts each claimed two titles Sunday in the NLF National Championships, the marquee tournament of the summer club boys’ lacrosse season.

More than 250 teams participated in the event, which took place over three days at Lehigh University and Grange Park and drew more than 350 college and prep coaches for recruiting purposes. It’s the flagship of the National Lacrosse Federation, which has partnered with USA Lacrosse to implement age-based play starting with the 2023-24 season.

The NLF staged championships for graduating years 2024 (rising high school seniors) through 2030 (rising sixth-graders), with two divisions each for the high school brackets.

In the 2024 AA and 2025 AA divisions, Team 91 swept Prime Time for a pair of titles Sunday.

Hunter Aquino, a 6-foot-5, 200-pound midfielder for Academy of New Church (Pa.) and Penn State commit, had three goals and an assist to lead Team 91 LI Wolfpack to a 10-5 victory over Prime Time in the 2024 AA final.

Midfielder Liam Gregorek (Shoreham-Wading River, N.Y./Navy) added two goals and an assist in the win.

In the 2025 AA final, midfielder Gary Merrill (St. Anthony’s, N.Y.), rated as a five-star prospect by the NLF, scored three goals to lead Team 91 LI Shock to an 11-7 victory over Prime Time.

Two of Merrill’s tallies came during a dominant third quarter in which Team 91 scored four unanswered goals. Attackman James Pagano (Commack, N.Y.) added two goals and attackman Matt Higgins (Boys’ Latin, Md.) contributed a goal and two assists for Team 91, which avenged a lopsided loss to Prime Time in the 2022 NLF National Championships final.

Brady Scioletti (Don Bosco Prep, N.J.) was a bright spot for Prime Time. The lefty midfielder scored three goals, demonstrating both long-range shooting and interior finishing ability.

Sweetlax’s titles came in the 2026 AA and 2030 AA brackets, highlighted by Sweetlax Navy’s 8-5 win over Laxachusetts Black in the 2026 AA championship game. Attackman James Whitehorse (Culver Academy, Ind.) opened the scoring with a behind-the-back beauty and Sweetlax never trailed in the game.

Whitehorse paced seven different scorers with two goals and attackman James Holbrough (Brighton, N.Y.) finished with a goal and two assists for Sweetlax — his second helper coming on a picturesque fast break off the opening faceoff in the second quarter.

Attackman Tedy Frisoli (St. Sebastian’s, Mass.) had two goals and an assist for Laxachusetts.

The most thrilling finish of championship Sunday came in the 2027 AA final. Midfielder Zeb Mills swooped in off the wing on the opening faceoff of overtime and took it all the way to score the game-winning goal and lift Colorado Kings to a 7-6 victory over LI Express Hogan.

Annapolis Hawks Green and Resolute took home the hardware in the 2028 AA and 2029 AA divisions, respectively.
