Dialed In: Your Lacrosse Fix for Wednesday, June 15

Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. We hear you.

After releasing our most recent magazine cover on social media, we heard the disappointment that our national championship edition to do equally depict the North Carolina women on the cover.

Both UNC and Maryland were undefeated, and both completed historic seasons. On Tuesday, we released a commemorative digital cover featuring both championship teams.

2. Jamie Ortega is a Honda Award winner.

Ortega, the UNC record-breaking attacker, was named the Honda Sport Award winner for lacrosse on Tuesday. Ortega joins Kara Cannizzaro as the only other Tar Heel to win the award.

The award recognizes the best player in women’s lacrosse from last season.

3. Gettysburg has found its next head coach.

Carole Cantele, the Bullets’ retiring head coach who spent 30 seasons at the helm, will make way for assistant Charlotte Cunningham to take over. Cunningham has been on staff since 2018.

More here.

4. Our latest high school rankings reflect state tournament results.

On the boys’ side, Staples (Conn.) made the biggest leap, going from unranked to No. 11 after pulling off the upset of state championship weekend against Darien.

On the girls’ side, late-season improvements were rewarded. Four new teams — Queensbury (N.Y.), Conestoga (Pa.), Skaneateles (N.Y.) and Episcopal (Pa.) — have all entered the Top 25.
