Good morning. Here's the latest from the lacrosse world:

  1. Donovan Dennis shares reflections from Colombia.

USA Lacrosse staff member Donovan Dennis went to Bogota, Columbia earlier this month to deliver lacrosse sticks to locals and run a clinic. The request came from World Lacrosse and was part of an effort to teach others about the game. But Dennis learned important lessons, too, as he shares in his second essay of a two-part series.

  2. Iona names first men's lacrosse head coach.
Chad Surman will serve as the first ehad coach in Iona men's lacrosse history, the school announced Monday. Surman was the head coach at Mercer for two seasons before stepping down in July. Iona announced the addition of men's lacreosse in August. The team's first season will be in 2024-25.

  3. Virginia coach Julie Myers to receive IWLCA honor.
University of Virginia head coach Julie Myers will receive the 2022 Diane Geppi-Aikens Memorial Award, the IWLCA announced Monday.

The award, named for former Loyola coach Diane Geppi-Aikens, recognizes lifetime achievements. Myers has guided UVA to an NCAA Tournament every season since she took the helm in 1996, something no other Division I coach can say, eight national championship games and one NCAA crown in 2004. James Madison assistant coach Colleen Shearer will present Myers with the award at the 2022 IWLCA Hall of Fame and Honors Banquet Dinner on November 17.

  4. Lacrosse All-Stars gives an early look at the 2023 rookie class.

Even with the COVID fifth year still in effect, several freshmen are bound to take the field and make an immediate impact this year. And Lacrosse All-Stars is giving some initial insights. Not surprisingly, Syracuse, the new home of USA Lacrosse Magazine National High School Player of the Year Joey Spallina, and Virginia, which has seven of Inside Lacrosse’s top-10 freshmen, received shoutouts. Here’s more on the new faces to look for on crowded rosters this season.
