Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. The new Cavaliers were on display at Fall Classic.

Lars Tiffany has a way with words. But the Virginia men’s head lacrosse coach took several second to find the right ones after his team took the U.S. to the wire but came up just short in an 8-7 loss.

“I’ll admit,” he said after collecting his thoughts about the way the Cavaliers competed late, “I’m a bit awestruck.”

The comeback from down 7-2 was even more surprising because most of the returning stars who helped them hoisting the team’s second consecutive national championship last May watched it unfold from the sidelines.

Go here to read more about who stood out this weekend for the Cavaliers and why this fall feels like a new chapter in many ways for Tiffany and his staff in Charlottesville.

2. Maiah Bartlett is a trailblazer.

Bartlett is a true lacrosse rarity - a female coach for an NCAA varsity men’s lacrosse program. Paul Ohanian has more on Bartlett’s path to becoming an assistant coach at Division III Denison University in Granville, Ohio.

3. The Tufts community mourned the loss of Madie Nicpon.

A junior defender on the Tufts’ women’s lacrosse team, Nicpon suffered what The Tufts Daily described as a “tragic accident” on Saturday.

“Last night, approximately 3,000 students, faculty and staff gathered at the Gantcher Center to remember Madie and to support each other in our grief, then processed by candlelight to Bello Field, where Madie had spent many hours with her teammates and friends,” reads a message from Tufts president Anthony Monaco, University Chaplain The Rev. Elyse Nelson Winger and Catholic Chaplain Lynn Cooper released yesterday. “The number of community members who turned out to lend support to each other, to Madie’s friends, and to her family was a testament to how many lives Madie touched during her time at Tufts.”

A GoFundMe page “In Memory of our wonderful, loving Madie” to assist the family in covering funeral and medical expenses had raised $118,437 as of this writing.
