Top Teams Unchanged in WCLA Coaches Polls

No. 4 BYU will be among the top teams back in action this week.

For the third straight week, Michigan Club and Denver Club hold the No. 1 positions in the WCLA (Women’s Collegiate Lacrosse Associates) Division I and II coaches polls, released today. Neither team played games in the past week.

A light overall schedule produced just two games played by Division I top ten teams. No. 3 Colorado Club posted a shutout win over Northern Colorado and became the first team to reach 10 victories on the season. No. 4 BYU registered a 15-10 win over Utah and improved to 7-1 overall.

More than half of the D-I top 20 are scheduled to be back on the field this week.

In Division II, No. 6 Providence was one of the few top teams to see action and improved to 6-0 overall with wins over Fordham and Sacred Heart Club. St. Thomas jumped up three spots, into the top 10, by posting three wins, including an 8-7 win over St. Benedict.

Several teams face a busy week ahead, including multiple games for No. 2 Loyola Club, No. 8 St. Benedict, and No. 9 Oakland. In addition, No. 6 Utah State hosts BYU, ranked fourth in Division I.

For the first time this year, there were no newcomers in either the Division I or II ranking.

The WCLA features 82 Division I teams and 149 Division II teams that compete under the US Lacrosse umbrella. The 2018 season will conclude with the US Lacrosse WCLA D-I and D-II national championships in Round Rock, Texas, May 9-12.
