Penn State Cracks Top Five in Nike/US Lacrosse Division I Women's Top 20

Sophomore Madison Carter tallied nine points in Penn State's wins over Princeton and Johns Hopkins, including a team-high six goals in its comeback win over the Blue Jays.

And then there were two. No. 1 Maryland and No. 4 Colorado are the remaining unbeatens in the Nike/US Lacrosse Division I Women’s Top 20.

Penn State bumps up one spot into the top five for the first time this season with wins over Princeton and Johns Hopkins, while Notre Dame and Virginia also rise in the rankings with victories over Syracuse and James Madison, respectively.

Northwestern is sitting once again with a .500 record and the 6-5 Dukes of JMU hang on at No. 20 after back-to-back losses.

Virginia (+4)

Since jumping into the Top 20 last week, the Cavaliers are starting to prove they want to be in it for the long haul. A win over James Madison and blowout victory over Duke have them breaking even with their record.

Notre Dame (+2)

After a three-game losing streak, Notre Dame got the boost it was looking for. A convincing 16-7 win over ACC rival Syracuse put the Irish back into the conversation after dropping five spots in last week’s rankings.

Syracuse (-5)

The Orange may only have three blemishes on their schedule, but their 16-7 loss to Notre Dame was its first in its conference. They were able to get the same amount of shots off as the Irish (30), but uncharacteristically failed to convert.

Princeton (-2)

The Tigers suffered their first loss of the season, 13-8 to Penn State. Cornell also lost to the Nittany Lions, but just by one goal to earn the edge over Princeton.
