It didn’t take long for someone to trump Trevor Baptiste’s perfect game.
Albany’s TD Ierlan, who was nearly perfect last week against Drexel, achieved the feat Sunday, going 24-for-24 with 22 ground balls in the Great Danes’ 11-9 win over Cornell — a game in which No. 2 Albany needed to score four goals in the final 3:18 to remain unbeaten — to earn Warrior/US Lacrosse Player of the Week honors.
The race between Baptiste and Ierlan for best faceoff man in the land is officially on.
Last week, Baptiste went 22-for-22 in Denver’s win over Cleveland State and Ierlan was 21-for-22 in the Great Danes’ win over Drexel.
This week, Ierlan pitched the 24-for-24 perfecto and Baptiste went 23-for-24 in the Pioneers’ win at Furman.
Their season numbers are absurd. Ierlan is 61-for-67 (91.0 percent) and Baptiste is 77-for-94 (81.9 percent). They’re gobbling up 16 and 12.25 ground balls per game, respectively.
