Matthew Nunes made 19 saves in Virginia's 12-8 win over Notre Dame.

This season, USA Lacrosse will celebrate the accomplishments of players across Divisions I, II and III each Tuesday with Player of the Week recognition. Players of the Week are selected by USA Lacrosse Magazine staff and contributors based on a variety of factors, including individual performance and impact on team success.

DIVISION I

MATTHEW NUNES, VIRGINIA

The UVA goalkeeper saved a season-best performance in what one could argue was the most important game of the season for the Cavaliers. Staring down a scary Notre Dame offense, Nunes refused to blink. He made 19 saves — one off his career high (March 19, 2022, against Maryland) — and held Notre Dame to eight goals in a 12-8 win that probably locks Virginia into the No. 2 national seed in the NCAA tournament.

DIVISION II

ZACHARY TERRY, LIMESTONE

Limestone made a statement last week, hanging 20-plus goals in consecutive games against Anderson and Wingate. With that kind of output, there is plenty of gaudy point production to pick from, but Terry stands out. He scored four goals against Anderson and added five more against Wingate. The accuracy stands out, too, with Terry going 45 percent shooting over the two games. He’s shooting 42 percent on the season and now has a whopping 74 goals.

DIVISION III

BOB GROSS, AMHERST

One letter away from the legendary king of zen painting, Bob Gross does not need happy little trees to line the path of his serenity. He does it all by himself with a variety of goal-scoring fastidiousness. An expert at moving off ball and appearing in the front of the net, Gross takes out the trash on the crease just as often as he sets his feet and let’s a rubber bullet rocket out of his stick. He was monumental in Amherst’s win over Bowdoin in the NESCAC quarterfinals, scoring the go-ahead goal with 1:35 left after fishing it out of a goal-line scrum.
